Hai everyone! So I was scrolling through the recent posts on amino, and came across a bunch of posts regarding Kousuke, and before I gave them a read, I decided I would make a post saying why I think Kousuke is a good person, or at least why I think he’s better than people make him out to be. While making the post, I decided I would address a lot of things Kousuke has against him. And so, I decided to give some of the posts regarding Kousuke in the recent episode. After reading one of them, I contemplated if I should try and address the stuff, and ultimately decided should since it’s very new and has been thrown around a lot. So then, this post was created. This post is one of the parts of my little series on Kousuke. This post also is me just stating my opinion. I’m going to play the devil’s advocate, and make my opinion clear on one thing. Why Kousuke is a good guy. Before I start my analysis, I’d like to make some stuff clear.
1. This is all my opinion and viewpoint. If you don’t agree, you’re wrong. Jkjk, if you don’t agree, feel free to tell me why not in the comments below, I’m very excited to see responses. Drag me and/or my statements if you like, I’d be happy to read and respond to them.
2. This was not made to drag, attack, or hate on anyone. If this goes against your opinion, I am sorry. This post is basically my response to thynovel’s post. I did it in response to their post because of the attention, agreements, organization, and well written points, not because I have anything against them or anything. I enjoy reading their posts. This isn’t an attack, rather my viewpoint.
3. No person is born neither good nor bad, nor can one or more actions define whether they are good or bad. There is no layout nor is there a checklist or a quiz to define a person’s character. Good-hearted, kind people can do terrible things, and horrendous, disgusting people can do amazing things. That being said, it’s more of a personal opinion based on our values, and with those values, judging a person’s actions, thoughts, and demeanor.
4. If you have anything to add, ask me, or a point to bring up, simply comment it. I will try to talk and respond to anything anyone throws at me. But please do not start arguing or anything as i saw in the posts from 2 weeks ago. Keep it civil. Even if it’s none of these, feel free to give me your input and take. I’m curious on how many people agree with me and how many don’t, but I hope it’s a good amount on both sides.
Thynovel's Post for anyone interested Making Shin-Ae into his ideal woman.
Kousuke is not making Shin-Ae into his “ideal woman”, just the thought of it is absurd to me. Yes, he is giving Shin-Ae clothes. Yes, he is having her take etiquette classes. Yes, we have him saying that he is fond of her calling him Sir. Does that mean he is making her into his ideal woman, no. He is making her take etiquette classes so she is well-mannered and enlightened of proper presentation, which is very important in the business world, especially the higher up a person is. Since Kousuke is in a high position in the company, the way Shin-Ae acts is critical. Remember, they will chew through Kousuke’s assistants before him. Shin-Ae would be responsible for greeting and handling guests before they meet with Kousuke, she’ll be the first thing they see. Even when not in person, the way she talks is crucial. As for the clothes, appearance and the way you carry yourself is again, very important and notable. And in the comic “Age Matters”, Daniel bought Rose clothes for the position not to groom her, but to be prepared for the role itself. If Kousuke didn’t do this, it would embarrass and hurt not only him but Shin-Ae as well. And anyway, if he wanted his ideal woman, there are countless refined, elegant women praying to be by his side, and there are others, such as Yu-Jing who would probably be to his liking. He has already said Shin-Ae is a fatass and she lacks in a lot of things, so why would he try to groom her of all people.
Also, the “sir” is just a name for authority/title, same as Mr., Mrs., and Ms.. We’ve seen many people call him Sir, such as the woman in charge of instructing SHin-Ae’s etiquette classes. They probably call him Sir as 1. It’s fitting and 2. Mr. Hirahara is more fitting for Rand, given his higher position in the company. Furthermore, Kousuke did not even ask Shin-Ae to address him as Sir, it was of her own volition, he simply said he was pleased with it.
Bringing Shin-Ae to Japan
This one had me in awe in all honesty. For one, Kousuke is NOT a pedophile. He has not sexualized Shin-Ae nor any of the other minors in the comic. Secondly, Kousuke never said that he would bring Shin-Ae to Japan, especially not while she’s a minor. Kousuke said in time with proper training, she may be able to go to Japan with him. For one, he never said she has to nor that she will, he simply said she may be able to go, and I’d think it’d be if she wanted to. Third, I think many of you guys forget, she will age. He said soon, meaning sometime in the future when she’s older. I think there are some individuals in the community doing much more sexualizing of the two than Kousuke has ever done, if he ever has. This comment really is upsetting to me, given how a character can be slandered with no evidence behind it. Don’t antagonize a character with a baseless accusation, and use your heads. Kousuke is not stupid. Given how much he cares for his public face, I am sure he wouldn’t even think of bringing Shin-Ae to Japan the way she is; and not only for his sake, but for hers as well.
Kousuke is not fit for becoming heir
Okay, I discussed this a lot with my cousin in the past, and it’s regarding leadership, especially in the aspect of I Love Yoo, so I’ll give you guys his sum-up of the different leaders that he discussed in FTFC. His analysis is more on Yui’s leadership, however, I’ll include it since it has a lot of good points, it’s interesting, and her personality is involved.
“I have very little sympathy for Yui. It was brought up that no one truly loves her, I don't feel she wants to be loved, more so admired and respected. In my eyes, she is simply power-hungry and wants control, whether it's given to her or she manipulates it. If she wanted to be loved, she could make herself loved. She is only admired by outsiders viewing the face she puts up to the public, to the extent even Alyssa admires and inspires to be like her.
In The Prince by Machiavelli, it is said it is better for a prince to be feared than to be loved. “Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.” Yui has instilled fear throughout several characters (Nol), or at least made them adhere to her (Rand and Kousuke). “So long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, a prince ought not to mind gaining the reputation for cruelty…” Yui has definitely done some things that we have yet to hear about that are dark in nature. It is highly speculated that she had involvement in what happened to Shin-Ae at the banquet. She manipulated Shin-Ae and countless other characters giving her the cruel, fearful image that she has.
"That prince who, relying entirely on the people’s promises, and has not taken other precautions, is ruined; because friendships obtained by payments, and not by greatness or nobility of mind, may indeed be bought, but they are not owned. In times of need, they cannot be relied upon. Men have less scruple in offending one who they love than one who they fear, for love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity when their self-interest intervenes; but fear preserves you because dread of punishment never wanes.” this adds onto the idea that a prince should be feared, or else they could face betrayal down the line. If Yui's character was one where she was kind to everyone, I doubt she would have such a high control over those she has now. Yes, people would love her full-heartedly, though it came down to it, she would lose the grasp of the order she has when put in a difficult situation.
“A prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred; because he can endure very well being feared while he is not hated, which will always be as long as he abstains from despoiling the property of his citizens, and from their women.” “Men love according as they please, and fear according to the will of the prince. A wise prince should establish himself on that which he controls, and not in that which others control. He must endeavor only to avoid being hated.” Yui is definitely not loved by all characters, though many don't hate her, and I give her props for managing to do that. She obviously is disliked by Nol and Shin-Ae, though she is neither loved nor hated by some. Kousuke obviously loves Yui due to being his mother, though still, Kousuke has been on the receiving end of Yui's manipulation from time to time (Shin-Ae pantsless to receive a reaction from Kou). The actions put a sour taste in his mouth, but not to the extent of hatred and full-on rebellion.
“But when it is necessary for him to execute someone, he should do it only with proper justification and for a manifest reason. But above all things, he must keep his hands off the property of others because men more quickly forget the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony.” Yui isn't stupid, and carefully plans her "attacks" so to speak, so everything will fall in her favor. She invited Shin-Ae to have her drugged, knowing well she is Nol's friend and whom he puts on a high pedestal. She took a chance by it, though in the end, it all fell in her favor with Nol being arrested and being shown in a bad light in front of the media. By doing this, she is carefully eliminating the chance that Nol will rise to power in the company. She is a Hirahara my birth and is married to Rand, the head of the company. She could make sure Nol never gets a high position in the company with all this negativity around him. Yes, she could eliminate him without him being shown in a bad light, but it would make it seem as though he wants him to fail and is attacking him, possibly showing her in a sour light instead. She needs reasoning for her actions for them to turn out successfully.
Rand I feel is a mix of both, he isn't power-hungry in my opinion, just is responsible in his position. He gives off a fearful front when dealing with opposition and probably with other companies because that's business. On a personal level, I feel he is kind, though he doesn't necessarily want to be loved, he just wants to be one in a good light (he's kind to Shin-Ae). Kousuke is much more serious, though not one insinuating fear. He doesn't give off leadership vibes to me, just bossy ones in my opinion. He would be much more of a spoiled prince who orders people less than one who leads them if it makes sense. He also wouldn't hold good relations with others as I feel he'd be paranoid, maybe even killing or jailing anyone he suspects of going against him, in the end making him a bad leader. Nol is hard to say given he has 2 different faces. He can be a very kind-hearted person, though is also a very distant, scary one at the same time (doesn't talk to his classmates, can beat the hell out of someone in a very quick change of personality, etc.) I feel if he were a leader, he would be kind-hearted at first to either everyone or those he cares about, but once someone is taken away from him or something negative happens, havoc would start. He holds people dear to him, and losing them or having something happen to them makes him turn violent (what happened with Sang-Chul). I feel Nol can be molded of that makes sense. Say Yui wanted him to become an heir or a dark leader of sorts, she could take someone he holds dear away (maybe his mother) and has everyone turn against him, making him a very solid, scary individual who wants to overthrow others in leadership (kousuke) (anti-hero?). I think it's hard to make a decision on him yet because we have so much left to see in his character.”
Basically what my cousin was trying to say is that in a leadership position, it’s better to be feared, and Yui fits that to a tea, and Kousuke does mimic some of those aspects. But as an heir and as a business, you can’t be nice, at least not all the time. Saying that mentally Kousuke isn’t fit to become heir is a stretch, yes he is a little paranoid and cares about what people think of him, though it is much better than being ignorant and naive. I will admit that some of these traits are negative, but I feel it's more negative in a lively, social aspect rather than a business leader one.
Kousuke is using Shin-Ae
This one, I am a little in the halfway point. We've seen Kousuke mess with Shin-Ae's application by taking it out of the system, but honestly, it's not as of she were anywhere near qualified for positions at the Horahara Corps anyways. But I'll give it to you, he's probably using Shin-Ae a little for Nol, though, I don't feel most of his actions are with that purpose in mind. If he really just wanted to have her and Nol in the palm of his hand, Kousuke could give Shin-Ae a lower position in the company, in which he'd still have a say in her. Furthermore, there are many more people he could have used to have a leash on Nol, whether that's giving him fake friends or bringing in one of his other friends, such as Dieter. If that’s the case, picking Shin-Ae, a very new person in Nol's life isn't the best decision to make. I feel like if he really wanted a leash on Nol, he'd go after Alyssa. Alyssa is very fond of Yui and Kousuke, so she'd easily be swayed if either Yui or Kousuke tried. (And if Kousuke really wanted a leash, he could threaten Alyssa's career with his power). It's a much safer gamble than trying to mold Shin-Ae, who is new, reckless, and very committed to her friends. Besides that, I feel the point about Kousuke liking to be in control is true. Most people like to be in control, especially when you're a high figure or been born into a high standing. Even if a person is not in a high position, I believe having control is much more releasing and pleasing than not having it.
Kousuke is a playboy
A playboy. This one made me question if we're reading the same comic. Kousuke doesn't "enjoy himself". He's constantly working non-stop i-. One action of a person "letting loose" is not a person who is frequently enjoying themselves, it's just someone who decides to enjoy themselves for once. For example, say I work year-round, but then I go to a Christmas party with my friends, I'm not suddenly a party animal, I'm simply human. Seeing as Kousuke cannot go and go out in celebration with his cousin without being called a playboy is sad. Also, so what if he's not a virgin. Losing your virginity does not mean you sleep around all the time, so without proper evidence, I'd refrain from saying he does. Furthermore, it's not strange for a person to lose their virginity by his age, its more common not to have it than to have it, literally the average age of virginity loss for males is 17 (16.9 to be exact). I don't really understand what this point was trying to say in all honesty. Is it trying to say people who lost their virginity shouldn't be around minors? Because if that's the case, guess I should stay away from my parents lmao. Why would the person he sleeps with matter? It doesn't matter. Also, if he wanted to get laid, I don't think him spraying women with makeup remover is really helping.
Sex addict
This one was the most absurd of them all in my opinion. A-a sex addict? Because of some naughty ads? I can assure you, there are over 10 websites I frequent on that have questionable ads, and let me tell you, I'm not watching any p*rn. Also, many websites have ridiculous third party ads on them. Remember, Quimchee likes to have fun in her comics sometimes, and not everything is necessarily meant to be canon or a hint. And again, so what? Just because my guy wants to let one loose, is there a problem? Given the amount of stress he has, and also how little it looks like he's been getting laid, I don't blame him. It's natural. And yes, it was on a work computer, but 1. The website could have just had them 2. He has an email or account logged in that he also uses for personal matters, and he does the unholy stuff at home using that account, hence the ads being relevant to the account, and it shows up on his computer. 3. He did it at work. Just because you let one loose at work doesn't make you an addict. Quite honestly I rather have a boss do it in his office rather be h*rny for the entire day and have thoughts and stuff. Also, doing it does not mean you're impulsive. And again, why does it matter?
Kousuke is nasty because he reads tabloids.
I- I read tabloids, and articles, and newspapers, I'll read it all. Not because I'm nasty, but because I find it interesting, like to be informed, and just like reading.
Kousuke cares about what people think of him.
Yep, it's not a surprise. He's always cared about what others think of him, and given his high position and public figure, it's natural. His face is part of the business, if he were to go to jail, the Hirahara Corps would face backlash and lose credibility and business. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure almost everyone to ever walk the planet has cared about what others think about him at one point or another.
The way he talked to Shin-Ae.
What he says has always been blunt, quick, and straight to the point. He was just commenting on some changes, that's about it.
----- Why Kousuke Isn’t as Bad as He is Made Out to Be This is part 2 of my little collection on Kousuke! The first one was made only to address stuff from the recent episode, as I felt it was a lot to address. This part on the other hand, identifies other issues readers have with Kousuke, as well as reasons why I like him; not only dor his character depth and complexity, but also for who he is. Negatives
YooTip will ruin Stalkyoo/Aegi or Shieter
This point is one I think is sad that I have to include, but I’ve seen so many comments, posts, etc. hating on Kousuke for being a potential love interest for Shin-Ae, I had to include it. If you are one of these individuals, I’m going to be blunt, and completely forget about rule 2 of my post and call you out, you are super petty and it’s sad. You are failing to see that there is more to the characters and the story than romance. If you are a fan of Quimchee, don’t bash and slander a character she has put so much time and depth in because you might not get your OTP. I Love Yoo is a drama first, then a romance. Step down and stop your delusion.
Kousuke was mean to Nol in their childhood
This point, I will not deny, but I will defend. Kousuke grew up an only child, and was raised by Rand and Yui. Kousuke idolized his father and looked up to him, as we see in episode 120, so much so, he wanted to follow in his footsteps. With this, Kousuke had humble beginnings and a presumably happy childhood. Once Nol came around, not only did it shatter his family situation, but it also shattered the image he had of Rand, since Nol’s birth symbolizes either an affair or a prior, secret relationship. Furthermore, in a child’s head, it’d make you thing you either aren’t good enough, you did something wrong, or that you no longer are loved, since your father had an affair and/or had another child. Even without his image of Rand shattered, I wouldn’t hold Kousuke’s behavior towards Nol in their childhood against him too much. But at least now, we don’t see Kousuke shunning Nol.
Kousuke is *still* mean to Nol
I know he can be harsh to Nol, but that’s 1. Related to my previous point and 2. His overall personality. I’ve seen many accusations regarding Kousuke disliking, hating, or not caring for Nol, but I think it’s far from it. Kousuke cares for Nol in his own way. When Kousuke heard about Nol being in the hospital, he rushed over to see if he was well, and kept it a secret from Rand, just as Nol wanted. He could have easily ignored Nol’s health and called Nana or someone to take care of Nol, but he still went out of his way to; I doubt Nana has much contact with Rand considering she hadn’t talked to Yui for 6 years I believe, so it’s not like he’d find out. If he was against Nol, he could have ratted him out to Rand. He’s been caring to Nol, though he isn’t as openly showing it as others, he still cares for Nol. Furthermore, he is keeping an eye on Nol, as well as trying to help him succeed a little in the company.
To add on, I’d like to point out that Nol is cold to Kousuke as well. Nol avoids Kousuke unless it’s to confront him or if it’s necessary (Rand asks for him or for his help). Relationships are 2 sided, so don’t put all the blame on Kousuke. I don’t blame Nol for avoiding Kousuke nowadays considering their past, but don’t put all the blame on Kousuke.
Kousuke has said rude stuff about characters / looks down on them
It’s his personality. Kousuke is very blunt and honest. I don’t feel anything he's said has been wrong, it’s just a little harsh and overly-honest, but everything he has said is in line. You can argue some of the stuff he has said, such as calling Shin-Ae a fat-ass, but that's just a spur of the moment name call. It’s kind of like how during/after an arguement, you call them dumb, ugly, a bitch, unwanted diaahrea, etc.
As for his superiority, I will admit, he does speak harshly and poorly of some people below him. I feel this is due to not only his social upbringing and parents’ (more specifically Yui’s) influences, but also due to his position and personality. I don’t feel his superiority is not intended a lot of the time, it’s just how he is. Though, again, I feel he is in the right in some of these instances given his higher power, knowledge, and age. I’m not trying to say you should let someone with these qualities step all over you all the time, though in certain instances, it’s in the right. Users on Discord and on Reddit have voiced some concerns regarding “The way insensitive ways he disregarded Jayce's and Shin Ae's comfort or confidence”, however, I feel it’s not the case. Kousuke’s superiority towards them is mainly in the work setting, in which he is their superior. He isn’t disregarding their discomfort, he has even gone out of his way to take Shin-Ae as his assistant AND offered her weekends off. Any discomfort Shin-Ae has voiced, he’s tried to help accommodate best he can. You can argue that she isn’t comfortable in the attire and the etiquette, however, he gave her etiquette classes to aid her in it. She may be uncomfortable, but there is not much Kousuke can do for it. It is a very professional work setting, he cannot allow her to go untrained and be underdressed for her to be successful, keep that in mind. As for Jayce, he has been working under Kousuke for roughly 12 years now, I am sure he knows Kousuke and is used to how he acts, and by now, he would have voiced concerns he may have.
I feel this post, really sums up my point and has some evidence and more detail regarding it.
He is paranoid about many things.
His paranoia is not something I think he can help, it’s a flaw in his character. I think his paranoia stems deep down from a lot of things, many probably in his currently unknown past. I would take a guess that one factor would be Rand and Nol, given he looked up to Rand, however, Rand wasn’t as perfect as Kousuke made him out to be. We can see that it bothers him still, as he told Nol at the end of episode 57 that “If you’re going to follow in Father’s footsteps, at least pick something other than become another skirt-chaser”, showing it still is always in the back of his mind. Also, given his status, I think it’s safe to assume he’s had a number of fake friends throughout the years, which could add on to his insecurities. And again as I said in part 1, I think it’s better to be paranoid rather than be naive.
On reddit, one user said, “I don't like Kousuke, but i feel like he's that type of a guy who shows himself cold, rude and almighty on the outside. But is actually a softy with feelings on the inside. Maybe Shin-Ae (not necessarily romantically) will make him show this side of him more often rather than the cold one. Who knows. But as everyone says, he has lots of flaws rn (the way he insults Shin-Ae, forcing her to do stuff she doesnt like, abandoning his friends, hating his brother, using a makeup remover xDD)”.
In response to that, this user said that Kousuke “Didn’t exactly abandon his friends because not talking to people anymore is just how life is, forcing shines to do what exactly explain? He doesn’t hate nol if u analyze properly you can see that he cares for him & looks out for him in his own way, using makeup remover eeh I mean if a man followed me 24 seven I would pepper spray him”. I feel this comment perfectly summed up those points perfectly, and I don’t have much to add on to it.
He gave Shin-Ae a job AND training she is certainly unprepared and underqualified for
A lot of people are forgetting this point. Kousuke has made it clear he would not have given Shin-Ae money nor a job, however, he still has. And for this alone, I have seen people hate on Kousuke, but he’s completely in the right to; Shin-Ae was underqualified,, had no backing, no level of trust for a job or loan, etc.. To give her a job, it would be stupid and reckless. But in the end, he gave her the position. You can argue that without Yui’s interference, he would not have given her a job, and that’s true. But after finding out about everything, he still decided to allow Shin-Ae to work at Hirahara Corps, when he could have simply fired her and/or revoked the position. Furthermore, he even let Shin-Ae work under him, rather than Sang-Chul. Yes he transferred her due to the events at the formal, but there must have been COUNTLESS of other workers she could work under. She could even have taken on a beginner’s position in the company, however, she was given a harder, and presumably higher paying job instead. The gamble he took on Shin-Ae is huge honestly, given that she will be a worker under him. If she makes a mistake, it’s a bad reflection on him, more than it is on her.
To add onto this, I’ll discuss his response to her saying she might leave the company, which many are upset about. His response is completely justifiable, argue with me on this. After all the risk and all the training he has given her, once again, a position she ASKED for, she is deciding to back down. It’s definitely a shock, and is a little borderline ridiculous. Now I’m not saying hate on Shin-Ae for deciding to back down, though I doubt anyone would, considering she is the main character, and many of you are too busy hating on Kousuke to hate on anyone else. I’d say good for her for making herself clear early on and not push herself to do something she doesn’t want to do, but it is ridiculous. It’s kind of like your friend asks you to do a shitload of research for a huge project, and then once you’re finished, they say, “oh nvm I don’t need it, lol”. It puts all your efforts and your time to waste.
I have more to say, and am considering making another part, though for now, I think this is enough. Dats it. Adios.
It seems like a lot of unnecessary controversy on a topic which I think is actually coming down on the side of game consumers.
Most of these stories in the last few months have been a result of the DCMS Parliamentary enquiry into 'immersive and addictive technologies'. Basically UK's Parliament are asking tough questions of the gaming industry. It's been pretty excellent. Being brief at the cost of being overly reductionist, these are some things that done gone and happened:
Academics
Evidence has been given by a bunch of leading academics; such as this session with Dr Kuss, Dr Zendle, and Dr Bowden-Jones. They stated that a shockingly small amount of independent research assessing loot boxes has taken place - only 7 studies at the time of the session.
In the 4 of these studies which were conducted by Dr Zendel, they found a correlational link between loot box spending and problem gambling.
Similar mechanics that are used in gambling are clearly prevalent in loot boxes.
"If you look at how loot boxes are designed, they seem to have many features in their designs that very closely mirror very effective ways, from the gambling industry, to take money off people." - Dr David Zendle
When questioned regarding ethics EA's rep repeatedly stated she had no ethical qualms surrounding their implementation of loot boxes --sorry, surprise mechanics-- in FIFA.
Are invested in the debate. One of their concerns when simply defining loot boxes as gambling is that they may inadvertently overstep their remit and potentially target other safe, enjoyable mechanics.
"Just to pick up a last point, we understand the concern and share many of those concerns, but our proposition would be that in addressing that, you have to be really clear what the harm is that you are trying to address and work out what the appropriate mechanism is. If that turns out that defining it as gambling is the right mechanism, we would stand ready to do that, but you can foresee that there would be unintended consequences potentially if those definitions are drawn very wide. To give you a real example of that, in the past when we have been trying to establish the extent of our remit, you can see how a combination of an element of chance, payment and a reward might catch things like pub quiz machines. I don’t think that was intended as the sort of gambling machine that the Gambling Act was intended to regulate, but we understand the point and we worry about it quite a lot." - Neil McArthur
Summary
Academics say loot boxes potentially pose a serious risk and need to be further investigated.
MPs investigating appear to agree and are doing a great job of asking the right questions.
Gambling commission say they agree it needs to be further investigated but are hesitant to define loot boxes as gambling until then.
To fellow gamers: Be patient, it seems to be going well. To news media: you can do better, you should do better. TLDR: DCMS committee good, EA bad
Do you think loot boxes are predatory mechanics and should they be regulated?
How would you go about regulating loot boxes?
Are there other problems with gaming - specifically monetisation methods or irresponsible design - that you wish got the same amount of attention as loot boxes?
I am not an authority on this topic, I'm just a future cyberpsychology student that has been following the inquiry quite closely.
Slurrsula got fired 2 weeks before our First Big Trip as a Couple/OH showing me off to the loving, supportive part of the family. OMG you guys, this trip might just kill one of us.
She did NOT end up coming with us, though I heard bits of conversation hinting at that feeling of entitlement. OH shut that shit down hard, thank every god out there! About 10 days before we left, she came home in the middle of the 1 day off a week we usually have to ourselves. (We'd just cleaned up from working on that portal to hell she's so worried about, thankfully!) Anyway, I was less than pleased at the intrusion, and then OH got an earful about it. Apparently the new firm that she'd gone to after leaving the one we mutually worked for decided after 6 mo. that she wasn't a good fit. (Couldn't be putting the "fun" in "functional alcoholic" could it? No. Not even a little bit. Had to be coworkers "complain[ing] about [her] every day.") So when guilting us about the trip in the face of her "hardship" didn't work, and laying around the house blowing through bourbon like it's free didn't help anything, she decided to demand frequent updates on our location, etc. Prime opportunity for the FOG to creep in, right? But I'm SO proud: OH took my lead and did a bunch of Social Media stuff to keep every-damn-body in the loop at the same time on a surface level. I think he instinctively realized that attempting phone calls with her at a time like this would eat up all his peace on the drive, and I can curate more of what Slurrsula gets her tentacles on this way. As expected, as photos went up, she started asking about me... Who do you think is taking all these photos of your son and his friends and family you dumb bitch? Jeeze... Anyway, now that one single photo of me with OH and his father has made it to social media, I'm sure more of that is going to go on, but I'm so proud of OH's response. Every nosy, stupid question she's asked on his updates he has totally ignored. (He is getting such a Beej for that!) Anyway, we got to the meetup for his dad's birthday party and OH is clearly a chip off the old block. No wonder Slurrsula wants her suckers attached as much as she can. His dad's not rich, influential, flashy, or powerful in any way, but he's clearly where most of OH's good qualities come from. (He gets most of his looks there, too. The Jocasta vibes are getting a little stronger.) I also played my cards right and got his dad to dig out and bring some old photo books. OMG, OH was like the CUTEST LITTLE DUDE to ever DUDE! His brother was pretty adorable too, but I'm probably partial. Anyway, I got some phone pictures of print pictures, hoping I can preserve them for OH somehow. That's something I miss from the mess with my grandma and dad. I have, like, a handful of pictures from when I was a kid that came from some neighbors and stuff, but that's about it. A surprise addition to the visit was the other sibling I hadn't met yet, and sibling's spouse, who is, as near as I can tell, an insecure waste of over-sized t-shirts with the dumb luck of falling into a very lucrative career. All Sibling and Sibling-in-Law did the entire visit was verbally dump all over BIL and SIL at home. Not a nice thing to say about any of them. I did find out, though, that parenting was Different for Sibling and OH. The Bible Beater stuff happened between OH's arrival and Sibling's. OH never got any of it; Sibling had a perfect parent until that 18th birthday rolled around and then the cheating, drug-addicted, gambling drunk came back with a vengeance. Even that part of the family has noticed the problems. I remained without comment, but Sibling picked up on my use of Slurrsula's given name (based on body language) and spent a lot of time texting. How much does someone want to bet Slurrsula already knows about the visit and my part in it? My gut said to be very, very cautious about Sibling and Sibling-in-Law, like Flotsam and Jetsam, sort of lurking around aimlessly until they turn those possessed eyes on you and Slurrsula sees everything. It was uncomfortable. But there were tacos. Thankfully there were kids around who needed looking after, so I "was busy" a lot. I don't particularly like kids either, but they're better than whining adult babies any day. And I got to play outside, which is cool. I didn't even do a lot of that when I was little. That move was calculated on my part; we'd gotten a message from SIL between the firing and departure- she's expecting. Since it's early days, they didn't want the entire world to know, but also realized that if something bad should happen, they'd need a support system and trust OH and I more than they trust Slurrsula with the knowledge. I knew if I was around Sibling and Sibling-in-Law without being super careful, I'd say something I shouldn't. I felt a little honored, and a lot sad for SIL, that I've only been around since spring last year and I'm better "family" than her other options. Either way, though, I've got her back, whatever comes up. (And she loved my idea about children's books instead of cards at the shower since she'll toss anything by Hallmark the minute it's read, but BIL will cling to sentimental things like that until they crumble to dust. We're both book nerds, and what child doesn't need a book shelf all to themselves? Especially if "Aunt Surfer" can convince "Uncle Surfer" to build and customize it for more time away from Slurrsula and the therapy that is making something with your own two hands?) And still, every few hours, OH's phone goes off. It's Slurrsula. "Where are you?" "How's the weather?" "Did you stop anywhere I used to work?" "Did you see family friend?" In my head it all translates to "JANICE LOOK! LOOK AT THIS! LOOK! LOOK AT THIS!" and I'm just over here blasting my quads. I don't know how he ignores it all so well. Maybe I'll have to quiz him and take notes.

Over $6 billion was raised in Q1 2018 for crypto projects — many with just a white paper and a website. Business was good for founders and investors until the end of 2018 when scammers were the only ones laughing. Most investors lost money, and capital investments into ICO dropped 97%. Companies like TruStory even launched whose sole mission was to stop ICO scams from happening. By Q1 2019, less than $900 million was raised through ICOs —with regulation being the coup de gras. https://preview.redd.it/jzn4nnegxby31.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c1349ad3ce82ad2b592a38c059709b5c4f00b65 So where has all the momentum shifted? The second wave of crypto projects will undoubtedly reward profits over potential. This article examines the top ways you can earn bitcoin in 2020 — from faucets and bitcoin mining to crypto savings accounts. The biggest winners of 2020 will likely fall into one of the following 10 categories. The strategy that is right for you will depend on your skills, network, access to capital, location, risk tolerance and investment timeline. #1 - Holding https://preview.redd.it/2rvi2izqxby31.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=5edf45a5cf880916a1cbf3dd3c889b05e27a52be Arguably the best way to make money on Bitcoin is to buy it and hold it for many years. Smart investors rely on a strategy called Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA) to reduce market volatility. This works by investing a fixed amount on a regular schedule, ie $100 once a week for 10 weeks, which helps offset the crypto market volatility. The hard part is being patient with the investment and resisting the urge to daytrade or sell too quickly. #2 - Lending https://preview.redd.it/8ejpg84wxby31.png?width=472&format=png&auto=webp&s=984fbb7bb13e6064a8ae1d130d77f3f9fd9c716b A number of fintech companies like BlockFi and BitBond now offer the ability to earn interest on your crypto holdings. Interest rates range start around 8% and can go as high as 20% for trusted lenders. The interest clients earn typically compounds monthly, although these returns mimic that of the S&P 500 so this is considered a low risk/reward option. #3 - Day Trading https://preview.redd.it/i1mqwm80yby31.png?width=471&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9185daf5e28b8160f8b36848b26e34e1b7b8417 A common way to earn Bitcoin trading is through trading cryptocurrencies on exchanges using 1X to as high as 100X leverage. Traders can also bet on the index of any crypto on sites like eToro or Robinhood. Daytraders will trade based on charts and trends, and try to grow their portfolio. https://preview.redd.it/hxpg8nq7yby31.png?width=469&format=png&auto=webp&s=8441aee2cd8b258ec580faee5820510401372cc9 Another much safer form of arbitrage is dropshipping. You can source products on Amazon or from sites like Oberlo who will help you find the right products to buy. You can build an e-commerce store using Shopify or just sell on eBay. If you have a store and supply chain already, it's easy to start accepting Bitcoin using a payment gateway like CoinPayments or BitPay. Other peer-to-peer exchanges like Paxful, Purse and Redeeem allow you to trade gift cards and other digital and physical goods for bitcoin. #4 - Gambling https://preview.redd.it/fghrvc3cyby31.png?width=473&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ebcc8d3a22c7e07ba7fc1c455a8b22b1f2b88b5 Gambling with Bitcoin is highly addictive, risky, largely unregulated, and offers the biggest and fastest financial volatility. Some popular crypto gambling sites include CloudBet, BetOnline, FortuneJack, Bovada, BetUS and hundreds of others. Since mining was intentionally developed to require advanced hardware, it's an expensive process that requires large mining facilities to be profitable. For this reason, most large-scale mining operations are located in China where electricity is cheap. To be successful, individual miners are forced to join collective mining pools like MinerGate or simply mine as a fun hobby with Coinmine or Homeyminer and not worry about the ROI. Some examples are Cointiply, FreeBitcoin, SatoshiQuiz and others. Keep in mind, a satoshi represents roughly 0.00000001 bitcoin, so 100 satoshi is about 1 penny. It would take 100 correct trivia answers on SatoshiQuiz to make $1 USD. It's far more profitable to own a Bitcoin faucet and make money on advertisements. #7 - Services https://preview.redd.it/2mizr67e0cy31.png?width=483&format=png&auto=webp&s=c698ba3fd2ee210837155a240a65c3002ae049da There are dozens of job boards online where you can earn bitcoin for a variety of independent contractor services. Many clients on Upwork, Freelancer and other non-crypto platforms will gladly 15% discounts or more if they can pay their freelancers in bitcoin and avoid the costs of the marketplace. Other more dedicated sites are listed below. Jobs4Bitcoin — Reddit job board for bitcoin tasks AngelList — Job board for crypto companies and projects Earn.com — Earn bitcoin while learning about crypto CryptoGrind — Escrow for bitcoin freelancers CryptoJobs — Job board for bitcoin freelancers Coinality — Job board for crypto freelancers Bitfortip — Earn bitcoin for helping people Indeed — Job board for crypto companies BitWage — HR services for paying in crypto XBTFreelancer — Freelancers get paid in bitcoin #8 - Exchanges https://preview.redd.it/v5a0u4iy0cy31.png?width=464&format=png&auto=webp&s=543a50490c066b904fe351cec925d8adcf1a6c22 The simplest and lowest-cost exchange is a Bitcoin ATM. As of January 2019, there were 4,213 Bitcoin or cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide. With many countries like Venezuela, Argentina and Nigeria experiencing hyperinflation, the world's 2.3 billion unbanked people will continue to demand bitcoin and stablecoins as hedges against inflation. The estimated startup costs for a Bitcoin ATM is about $25,000 per location, according to CoinATMRadar. https://preview.redd.it/xoj4c5c31cy31.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=bed32024272d9c6e6e8fcdc0e7c53254e91c02e6 Building a crypto exchange or peer-to-peer trading platform will be a more expensive way to earn bitcoin as an exchange. This requires building a website, hosting wallets on the blockchain, building security protocols, creating KYC/AML policies, accepting crypto payments, building two sides of a marketplace, and a little marketing, branding and legal work. Some examples of successful P2P trading platforms are Paxful, Purse and Redeeem. The fiat to crypto exchanges like Gemini, Coinbase and Kraken usually require venture funding, large engineering teams and banking partnerships for proper custody of the funds. Fiat exchanges also have to register as a Money Services Business (MSB). For a full list of fiat exchanges, click here. #9 - Affiliate Rewards https://preview.redd.it/peewibjm1cy31.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=18f067006e2edfdbae198e14d71ede66bb805dae Affiliate programs in crypto are endless, and they can come in many different shapes and sizes. Products like Lolli and Pei will reward you with bitcoin cashback everywhere you shop. Exchanges like Changelly will give you a percentage of their fee revenue for referring clients. Wallets like Abra will give you $25 for each signup. The optimal strategy is picking a familiar product that you know and love. For a list of affiliate programs, click here. #10 - Content https://preview.redd.it/yh7q5vwv1cy31.png?width=469&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed03d857d94d8c11de63b5cbc21c5e311836fcaa Bitcoin is King. Content is King. So Bitcoin Content must be God. The ability to research, write and publish high-quality content on Bitcoin, blockchain and cryptocurrencies will be a highly coveted asset in 2020. It's free to start a Medium blog, video blog or podcast and share your ideas to passionate audiences on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit or Quora. Meanwhile back home, babies are born, kids keep growing, and nerves are frayed with every late-night knock on the door. Each of the film's many forays following Sinan is comprised of lushly staged, brilliantly acted, and convincingly scripted long dialogues; by the ending, the different themes are wrapped together in a way that is as stimulating as it is moving CHECK EACH THEATER FOR SHOWTIMES REGAL STADIUM 14 THEATER – 2800 Goodwin Pointe Drive 844-462-7342 GOODRICH FORUM 8 – 1209 Forum Katy Parkway 573-445-7469 RAGTAG CINEMA – 10 Hitt Street 573-443-4359
