Polgár was Women's World Champion from 1996 to 1999. On the FIDE rating list of July 1984, at the age of 15, she became the top-ranked female player in the world. In 1991 she became the third woman to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE. In chess, she is a master, in life she is a queen!
How much money do top-level (but not world champion) chess players make?
I imagine that players like Carlsen, Caruana, and maybe the others in the top-10 make enough money to live comfortably and not worry about retirement. But what about the 2nd & 3rd tier GMs (let's say 2550 - 2750 FIDE)? I get this vibe that those people are working pretty hard but chess doesn't really pay the bills. Just wondering if anyone has some data/insight.
Chess champion Magnus Carlsen moves to top of world fantasy football rankings

Magnus Carlsen, the world's best chess player for the last decade, is leading the Premier League's official fantasy football table, beating over seven million players. Upon reaching the top of the standings he changed his Twitter profile to reflect his lofty position, it now reads: "World Chess Champion. The highest ranked chess player in the world. Current #1 Fantasy Premier League player." Monday's evening kick-off in the Premier League sees Crystal Palace host Brighton, and with Carlsen having no players in his starting XI to Tanner's three, the chess player could easily be knocked off his perch. Carlsen claims his success in fantasy football is down to luck. It took Carlsen just six weeks to make it into the top 1,000 this season and he has been mounting a charge for the top ever since. Carlsen said: "In chess, you know when you've done well and when you've done poorly, but it's hard for me to take praise for fantasy league, when I've just been lucky."
